Filthy hands in juice bars to butchers make food and drink hard to swallow THE other day I was thirsty, having walked for an hour in the boiling sun. I pulled up at a gorgeous little cafe that promised freshly squeezed juices. It was just what my heart desired. It was a quiet day so…

Animals are instantly killed for attacking people in the wild, recently 3 bear cubs. It’s unjust. THERE have been several incidents of animals attacking humans recently. Several shark attacks; two incidents involving bears — one a polar bear attacking a young camper, and another bear and her cubs in Russia eating a young woman; there…

How it is that some relationships stand the test of time and others just don’t? I RAN into an old friend the other day. It was a chance meeting. I consider this woman one of my true soul mates; someone I’ve shared so much with during the early days of my career. We have a…

As I blogged last week Telstra and Optus are debating whether to enact their censorship filters this month and try to stop what they consider “undesirable content”. While the big boys prevaricate, here’s what we humble internet users know: you can’t stop anything by trying to censor the web. My daughter found a site last…

Landlords continue to discriminate against pet owners. Often it becomes “the dog or the home”. Should bias be illegal? I MET a woman recently who’d just moved to Sydney. She’s a single mum with a dog, currently staying with friends while looking for a place to rent. I knew the drill as she started…

Beauty comes from the inside, my mother told me. “Smiling is the best face lift,” she said. Wrong. I love my life. But smiling hasn’t taken the bags under my eyes overseas. Call me Judas for betraying my “natural ageing” beliefs, but I’m asking myself: To nip or not to nip. To betray one’s beliefs…

Trends in food come and go. But the latest has caused even the hard-hearted to squirm. Breeders on the North Coast are investigating whether there is a market for the fluffy South American delicacy as an alternative meat source. The Australian Alpaca Association said they were looking at what cuts people would buy while Mr…

Hi Ruth
I have just spent a day sailing on a catamaran in Albany, WA, in high seas and good seas with a number of Humpback Whales who wanted to know who we were. Exhilarating and inspiring and so very close as we drifted, motor off ,and let them approach and look at us. It was intended as a forest getaway among the Karri and Tingle Trees but the whales would not let us go.

Sorry made so many mistakes in last blog. You must give me lessons on writing! You are so bright and know exactly what is going on in the world, you are serious and relevant, Sometimes can we have some of your old funny articles, about family and fun. Life is so anxious now, xx

Thanks Lilianna, it is such a pleasure to get a lovely response from a fan like you. We all spell poorly when we are blogging. God only knows after the spell check on my word documents I am now free floating with only my school knowledge of spelling. I am terrified my readers will work out that I am an awful speller. Warm wishes Ruth.

My farm is about an hour from Noosa…so when i get to the point of needing some time out, I drive down there and do a 1.5km ocean swim at Main beach watching the fish as you go along and when finished, jog up to the groin and back on the soft sand, feeling the winter sun on your back and the sea breezes on your face and then kickback at Sails on the Beach with a hot chocolate and take in the beautiful paradise of Laguna Bay. The rest of the day is spent strolling through the great National Park at Noosa and later sitting on the beach ‘contemplating my navel’ or reading a good book. Which is what i will be doing this weekend…can’t wait!!!
